The park is located on Hwy 17 approaching Lithia Springs. Open, green park with a beautiful pond & a playhouse for children. There are restrooms, drinking fountain & picnic facilities. Mae was an old growth pine tree along Hwy 17 beside the park. It was cut down to make room for the park.

The park features a beautiful large playground area with ADA access. Miles of wooded trail give the opportunity to explore Mae’s roots as a local artist and people person. Miles of paths lead to a large pavilion and playground. The entire park is surrounded by a giant cedar tree, making it a magical place to visit.

Mae Simmons first opened the Huckleberry Creek Camp in Lithia Springs, North Carolina in 1930. It was the first all natural campground in the state. The camp quickly became popular because of its large playground and a beautiful lake. People from all over the area stopped by to swim, relax, play, fishing & watch the beautiful wildlife. In addition, the nearby lake and woods also became a popular vacation getaway.

Today, the park features a wide variety of activities for families. During the summer months, Mae offers swimming, boating, fishing, nature walks, nature programs & storytelling. Mae even has a small stage where you can watch performers while you enjoy the park. If you would rather have a quiet time enjoying the park, Mae allows you to leave your dog at home. The only requirement is that dogs should be kept on a leash and the owners must keep their pets on a leash when they are in the park. This keeps the animals out of the way of people who may want to take advantage of a child enjoying their free time.
